For Interns 2020

We have several pathways for internships

Our interns benefit from working across multiple specialty areas and have the opportunity to gain high quality clinical experience by undertaking rotations across Joondalup Health Campus, Hollywood Private Hospital, Peel Health Campus and a number of regional hospitals.

Rotations are available in emergency medicine, general medicine, general surgery, psychiatry, orthopaedics, cardiology and rehabilitation.

There are several pathways for interns as outlined below.

If you want to work at Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) or Hollywood Private Hospital (HPH) during your internship, you can apply to be seconded here via Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

In your WA intern application you will be asked to preference the Primary Employing Health Services (PEHS) where you would like to undertake your internship.

Simply select Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital as your first preference when choosing your PEHS.

Once you have accepted a position you can preference JHC or HPH for your rotations.

Apply on the Postgraduate Medical Council of Western Australia (PMCWA) website.

If you are a full-fee paying medical student who has studied at an Australian medical school, you can apply for an internship opportunity funded by via the new Junior Doctor Training Program - Private Hospital Stream (JDTP-PHS). This was formally known as the Commonwealth Medical Internship (CMI) program.

This pathway will allow you to complete the requirements for general registration as a medical practitioner in Australia.

Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) in Western Australia is one of the participating hospitals in the JDTP - PHS and can second interns to complete terms at Hollywood Private Hospital, Peel Health Campus and terms in various rural and regional hospitals.

To be eligible for a federally funded internship with us, simply submit your expression of interest on the Australian Government’s Department of Health website.

At this stage it is not known how many JDTP positions will be available for JHC to offer, but we will update this website as soon as the information becomes available.

We also suggest you actively monitor the Government’s website for updates.

There may be opportunities for Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) to employ select International Medical Graduates (IMGs) who completed medical degrees outside of Australia and who meet certain eligibility criteria.

Under the Junior Doctor Training Program - Private Hospital Stream (JDTP-PHS) hospitals are expected to prioritise international full fee paying medical graduates from onshore Australian medical schools.

Therefore, IMGs will only be considered if there are still vacancies once applications for international full fee paying graduates who studied in Australia are exhausted.

If successful, these candidates will be given the opportunities to complete an internship and meet requirements for general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APRHA).

They will work alongside locally trained medical students at JHC and can be seconded to other hospitals, such as Hollywood Private Hospital, Peel Health Campus and terms in various rural and regional hospitals.

To apply simply submit your expression of interest on the Australian Government’s Department of Health website.

What have previous interns said about JHC and HPH?

"CMI is a great program to develop skills and knowledge. I had worries that a private hospital wouldn’t provide an adequate training. However, I quickly found out that was far from the truth especially because Joondalup Health Campus has one of the busiest emergency department in Australia. Consultants are also very approachable which definitely helps with learning. I would absolutely recommend the program." - Dr Hean Sun Ooi (Ramsay Intern 2019)

"The Ramsay CMI Program is the perfect stepping stone for medical graduates fresh out of school. The experience gained is invaluable and has shaped me into the health care practitioner I am today." - Dr Jeremy Lek (Ramsay Intern 2018)
